Preaching is my Resting Time - ISKCON Congregational Development Ministry

Preaching is my Resting Time

By H.H. Jayapataka Swami, ISKCON Congregational Development Ministry.

As the ISKCON minister for Congregational Preaching H.H Jayapataka Swami has set up a worldwide system to teach devotees how to make more people Krsna Conscious, as well as how to organize home programs. Through the congregational ministry, he has produced several books to make the preaching more systematic and organized. He encourages devotees to attend congregational preaching courses and gives seminars on this topic in many countries around the world. This service remains close to his heart so His Holiness remains at the forefront of the Nama-hatta preaching in India as well as in other parts of the world. Acknowledging his enthusiasm in this area, the ISKCON GBC gave him officially the role of expanding congregations for Srila Prabhupada’s movement at the Centennial celebrations in 1996.

His Holiness travels tirelessly and preaches dynamically in India and around the globe; he has learned many foreign languages and has wonderfully accepted the original Vedic culture, mainly the culture of Mahaprabhu in Bengal. One of the main activities Maharaja focuses on is the development of Nama-hatta preaching inspired by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s vision. Today we can see thousands of houses all over the world
practicing Krsna Consciousness. This is particularly observed in the Indian subcontinent, Russia, Malaysia, Middle East, some countries in USA and Europe.

HH Jayapataka Swami began traveling to various countries beginning from 1979. Today HH visits different yatras in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, North and South America, Australia, Eastern an Western Europe, Middle Eastern countries as well as Africa. His desire is to fulfill Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada’s desire of spreading Krsna consciousness in every town and village.

Srila Prabhupada mentioned once that some of the parents of His disciples cursed him to always remain traveling and never stay in one place. He once called Jayapataka Maharaja and other sanyasis into his room and said that He was passing on this curse of constant traveling to his sanyasi disciples. Jayapataka Maharaja took this as a personal instruction.

Forty years of continuous preaching work and giving absolute importance to His preaching service to Srila Prabhupada, Maharaja gives only secondary concern for personal health.

Once an assistant asked Jayapataka Maharaja to please take more rest and take care of his health, Maharaja replied: “Preaching is my resting time.”
