With 6 days to go until the advent of Lord Chaitanya, approximately 500 years ago. Let’s talk about why He is appeared.
Vedic texts state that Lord Chaitanya is the Supreme Person, Krsna, appearing as His own worshiper. He is the combined form of Krsna and Krsna’s most dear devotee, Srimati Radharani. He came to experience the love She feels for Him, and to show by example how to fully surrender to Krsna.
Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in the world and established the Yuga dharma of prema Sankirtan. The foremost occupational duty for humanity in this Age of Kali is nāma-saṅkīrtana, or congregational chanting of the holy name of the Lord. Lord came as Yuga Avatara to inaugurate sankirtana movement.
Advaita Acharya felt sorry for the condition of the world because even after Lord Krsna’s appearance, no one had interest in devotional service to Kṛṣṇa. This forgetfulness was so overwhelming that Advaita Prabhu was convinced that no one but Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself could enlighten people about devotional service to the Supreme Lord. Therefore, Advaita Acharya requested Lord Kṛṣṇa to appear as Lord Caitanya. Offering tulasi leaves and Ganges water, He cried for the Lord’s appearance. The Lord, being satisfied by His pure devotees, descends to satisfy them. As such, being pleased by Advaita Acharya, Lord Caitanya appeared.
Lord Caitanya wanted future generations to go into every town and village and tell the world of the love that Krsna has for all of us. He also wanted us to distribute the Holy names of the Lord in the form of the Hare Krsna Maha-Mantra:
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare
Thanks to Srila Prabhupada, this-maha mantra is now a familiar transcendental sound around the world.
